Did a Cher-Celine Dion feud happen during this year’s Billboard Music Awards? Definitely not as both divas reigned over the event by bringing nostalgic performances of their own.
A report from Radar Online published on Monday sparked rumors that the 71-year-old “Believe” songstress and 49-year-old “My Heart Will Go On” singer are not in good terms and even had a feud backstage during the BBMA 2017.
According to the article, Celine Dion wanted more time on stage than Cher and reacted poorly after the latter received the BBMA Icon Award right after her performances.

Citing an unnamed source, Radar claimed that there was a high level of animosity between the two even before the Cher-Celine Dion feud at the BBMA.
“There is already so much animosity between the two of them.”
The supposed insider further added that while the diva behind the classic Titanic song had so much negative reactions, Cher “does not care at all about the drama.”
The source then claimed that the 49-year-old singer tried her best to “save face” during the event in Las Vegas but “felt like she should have been allotted more time for her performance.”
Of course, such speculations about the Cher-Celine Dion feud were immediately debunked by fact checking website Gossip Cop which emphasized the absurdity of the claim.
“This piece seems to be based entirely on two flimsy claims: Dion and Cher have “animosity” because they both have Vegas concert series, and Dion supposedly wanted a longer appearance,” the outlet explained.

But while it is true that Cher upped Celine with one song that night, there is no reason for the “My Heart Will Go On” singer to want more considering that the sole purpose why she performed at the Billboard Music Awards is to honor the 20th anniversary of the Titanic that made her iconic song a huge hit.
On top of that, there was no mention of a feud ever actually happening between the two divas backstage in the event which begs the question: Why write such headline in the first place?
By the looks of it, Gossip Cop had the right idea that the entire news about a Cher-Celine Dion feud is fake and was made up by Radar Online to spark rumors and capitalize on the trend that is the Billboard Music Awards.
Plus, there is the fact that Celine Dion even initiated a sing-along backstage while Cher is performing her legendary 1998 hit single “Believe”—a feat that was captured on camera and was shared over Instagram.
Any person witnessing this footage will never think that anything wrong occurred between the two singers during the event let alone a Cher-Celine Dion feud erupting backstage.
Of course, the two did talk backstage, Gossip Cop confirmed with the outlet’s own insider source.
“They saw each other in passing as Cher got off the stage and spent about two minutes talking,” the source told the outlet.
“They never saw each other before or after and Celine could not have been happier.”
What we do know for sure is that both divas killed it that night: Celine with her epic belting of “My Heart Will Go On” while donning a elegant white dress and Cher with her jaw-dropping performance of the 1998 hit “Believe” and her 1989 classic “If I Could Turn Back Time.”
In fact, Vanity Fair noted how they both pulled out the most memorable performances of the night even amidst the crowd of millennial performers and entertainers.
